Cub Cadet Z-Force 44 Deck Belt Replacement Guide 

1. Prepare the mower for maintenance by placing your zero-turn on a level, flat surface. Before beginning any work, be sure the mower is off and the engine's had time to cool. Disconnect the spark plug ignition wire and make sure you engage the parking brake. This ensures your safety, and the safety of those near you. 

2. Remove the deck belt rod. Take the belt-keeper rod off and then remove the deck belt from the mower engine pulley. 

3. Lower the deck height. Adjust your deck lift lever so it is in the highest possible position, and slide in wooden blocks for more support. Now lower the deck of your mower onto the wooden blocks. 

4. Release the deck. You'll want to release the deck from the hangar brackets by removing the left and right J-Hooks. Now, carefully remove the wooden blocks from under the deck to lower it even further. Remove the click pin from the front deck hangar rod. 

5. Remove the mower deck. Begin by putting the deck height lever back in the highest possible position, and then turn the front wheels to the left. Slide the cutting deck out and to the right. If you find that you need to replace any other parts on your mower deck, now is the time to do so. 

6. Remove mower deck belt covers by using a ratchet. Also remove the nuts and bolts that secure the belt keeper to the deck idler pulley. Separate pulleys. 

7. Replacement time. Move the left idler pulley away from the machine, and lift off the old mower deck belt. Now you can loop the new deck belt around both pulleys. Reassemble nuts, bolts, pulleys, and covers. Follow the previous steps in reverse to complete step 7. 

8. Replace the zero-turn mower deck by sliding the deck back underneath the mower. Maneuver the new lawn mower deck belt around the engine pulley, and secure it in place with the rivet and rod. 

9. Replace hangar brackets. Put the click pin back into the deck's front hangar rod. Now replace the J-hooks back into their brackets on the left and right.

As a general safety rule, you should always use the slope gauge (included in your Cub Cadet RZT 50 Manual) to measure the slop before operating your mower. If the slop is greater than 15 degrees, don't operate your Cub Cadet on the area, as it could cause serious injury. 

Dos: 

–Mow across slopes, not up and down. Be very careful when changing direction. 

–Keep an eye out for holes, ruts, bumps, rocks, and other hidden objects. Tall grass can hide obstacles, and uneven terrain can overturn your machine. 

–Operate at a slow speed. The speed you choose be slow enough that you don't need to stop while on the slope. You should also avoid starting or stopping on a slope. If your tires have difficulty maintaining traction, disengage the blades and proceed carefully and slowly straight down the slope. 

–Refer to the Cub Cadet recommendations for wheel weights or counterweights for improving stability. 

–When using grass catchers or other attachments, use extra care, as they can change the machine's stability. 

–All movement on the slope should be gradual and slow, never sudden. Don't make quick changes in speed or direction, as these rapid movements can cause the front of the machine to lift and rapidly flip over backwards, resulting in serious injury. 

Don'ts: 

–Don't turn on a slop unless it's absolutely necessary; then turn slowly uphill and use extra care while turning. 

–Don't mow near ditches, drop-offs, or embankments. These surfaces could cause the mower to suddenly turn over if a wheel goes over the edge of a cliff or ditch. 

–Don't attempt to stabilize your Cub Cadet by putting your foot on the ground. 

–Don't use the grass catcher attachment on steep slopes. 

–Don't mow wet grass; the reduced traction may cause sliding. 

–On slopes greater than 5 degrees, don't tow heavy pull-behind attachments, like a lawn roller or loaded dump cart. This extra weight tends to push the tractor downhill, and you may lose control of your equipment.

My snow blower won't discharge snow. What's wrong? 

If your blower/thrower isn't discharging, check the following: 

1. Auger drive belt: is it worn, loose, slipping, or off the pulley? Refer to your owner's manual for proper adjustment. 

2. Check the Auger control cable for proper adjustment. 

3. Are the auger or impeller pins sheared? If you need to install new shear pins, refer to your owner's manual. 

4. Inspect the discharge chute. Is it blocked? If so: 

    A) Never clean out the chute with your hands. Use the clean out tool. 

    B) Stop the engine and make sure all moving parts have stopped. Disconnect the spark plug wire, and keep the wire away from the plug to prevent accidental starting. 

    C) Use the clean out tool to clean the discharge chute. 

My snow blower has lost speed or traction. What should I check? 

1. Make sure the drive belt is secure in the pulleys, and that it's not worn or stretched. 

2. Inspect the drive disc for wear or contaminants. 

3. If your drive cable needs adjustment, refer to your owner's manual. 

4. Check tires for proper inflation pressure.

As the winter season settles in, your snowblower needs to be ready to go in the case of an overnight snow that needs cleared before getting on with your day. Follow our guide for adjusting snowblower skid shoes in four easy steps below.

Skid shoes control the height of the scraper bar to the ground. The scraper bar protects the auger and auger housing from wear. When set at the correct height, the skid shoes prevents the scraper bar and augers from scraping against the ground. Skid shoes will wear down during during use, so the scraper bar needs to be checked regularly and skid shoes should be adjusted or replaced when necessary.

1. Place snowblower on a flat surface and adjust tire to the recommended PSI that is located on the side of the tire.

2. Place spacers under the scraper bar–NOT under the skid shoes. A piece of cardboard or washers works well for this purpose, as seen in the image below.  

   1/8 inch spacers are recommended for paved surfaces.

   1/2 inch spacers are recommended for gravel surfaces.

3. Loosen the bolts holding the skid shoes to the side of the blower housing.

3. Slide the skid shoes down and tighten bolts.

4. Re-fuel. Before adding new fuel, you'll need to drain your gas tank. When you add fresh fuel, you'll want to be sure your fuel includes a stablizer. This will prevent the fuel from going bad if you don't have to run your snow thrower for a couple of milder winter weeks. 
5. Before you run your Cub Cadet snow thrower, you'll want to sure all parts are in supreme working order. Lubricate the drive and chassis. Be sure to tighten nuts and bolts.

First, think about the size of your yard. 

If your yard is small, a lightweight, electric blower will best suit your needs. 

For mid-size yards, think of a 2 or 4 cycle gas blower. These units are limited by power cords, and some come with vacuum bags for collecting the leaves. 

If you have a large yard, you may want to invest in a backpack or wheeled blower. The backpack blowers are more comfortable for longer periods of operation, while wheeled blowers are more powerful and ideal for clearing a lot of leaves from large yards. 

Next, consider the power and speed ratings of your ideal equipment. There are two ratings to pay attention to: MPH and cubic feet/minute (CFM).
